During every budget planning period there are several competing priorities trying to secure investment. This article makes the case for why implementation of SAP S4/HANA should be on the shortlist now and not in the future.
SAP Support for Legacy Platform
SAP have announced they will no longer offer standard support to S4/HANA’s predecessor after 2027 and will require paid support between 2027 and 2030. For companies with systems running on the legacy platforms the clock is ticking and CIOs need to start the evaluation process immediately to understand the timescale of a migration to S4/HANA and how this impacts the organisation’s overall strategic alignment for the next 5-10 years.
Changes in How Businesses Operate Post Pandemic
It can’t be overstated how much the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we work and will continue to do so for the rest of the decade. It undeniably opened up home working as a long-term viable option, but this could just be the beginning. Workers are starting to evaluate other antiquated ideas such as the 5-day working week and limiting the devices staff use to carry out their role. Business processes are the foundation which these changes will impact and analysing the benefits which a next generation ERP system such as S4/HANA bring is critical to strategic planning.
New and Emerging Technologies
Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IOT) and blockchain are maturing rapidly and enterprises are better equipped now to understand how they can benefit from them through extensive research and real-life use cases. In the same way in which cloud technology is starting to become a de-facto part of digital strategies rather than a speculative future innovation the same will soon happen for the next generation of disrupters. As customers and partners start to expect to see these on the roadmap, companies need to consider their overall business process strategy and how this will facilitate new technologies.
